Unpaid Meal Charge Policy
Our school has adopted the State of Hawaii DOE policy on Unpaid Meal charges; please see the information below:
- Within the first 21 days of school, a student with low, insufficient, or zero account balance shall be allowed to charge meals;
- A la carte sales, such as milk, entrée, juice, snacks, etc., shall not be allowed to charge;
- The meal counting and claiming software system will track all meal charges;
- The household must clear all meal charges that are incurred during the first 21 days of the school year; and
- After the first 21 days*, unpaid meal charges shall not exceed the cash equivalent of seven (7) days. The total allowable charge amounts based on eligibility is:
- Reduced-price students – $4.90;
- Regular/full-price students’ grades K-8 – $25.20
*8/6/24 - 9/6/24 (pre-K, FSC, and Gr. 1-Gr. 6 students)
*8/9/24 - 9/11/24 (Gr. K students)
- Schools will disallow the charging of a la carte or extra items by any child with a negative balance, regardless of the child's eligibility status.
If a negative balance has accumulated beyond the seven (7) day charge limit, students will not be able to purchase meals or other items until the negative balance is less than 7 days of charges.
Households will be reminded of their low lunch account balances through letters and/or phone calls. Parents/Guardians are responsible to provide their child with a peanut-free home lunch and drink during this time. Student charges/loans must be paid off by the end of the school year.
We strongly encourage all families to fill out a free or reduced price meal application*. Parents may also set low balance reminders via EZSchoolPay where they can receive an email notification.
This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
